 Raspberry Pi Navigation System

I have been busy setting setting up a navigation system that runs on a raspberryPi computer, a 10 inch screen and a USB GPSmouse -  that combines charts,  grib files as an overlay and ais data wirelessly sent from my Onwa ks200+ - it does weather routing as well - using wind instruments I could even get their data via SignalK. I am busy working out Polars as well, at the moment I am using polars from a Muscadet as I have not yet created a custom polar file.

here are the screenshots from the system

Please visit the blog again to see how the system will be installed on Cagarro and also please visit the youtube channel and register because I will be making videos showing it in use and if there is enough interest  maybe some videos with  hardware options, chart and software installs as well

 20ft Flicka round the world
via the Straits of Magellan
visits Horta on the way home to UK

I was in Horta and saw this brave boat - arrived to no fanfare or TV news
but if a voyager deserves to be interviewed this is one.

Here is a youtube video from Falklands Islands TV

I took lots of pictures (Click them to see larger versions)
because there were many interesting details -
note that the standing rigging is Synthetic - DYNEEMA, and not wire -
super strong and super light, executed almost the same as I did on
Cagarro with some small variations.

 Outside/Inside of 2 piece Companionway
- Boat Ghetto Blaster

Here is the promised view of the complete 2 piece companionway from the outside and the inside - the lower piece has a mount for the Silva 70 compass.

and I made a Japanese Cedar 12V "ghettoblaster" as well as FM radio it also plays MP3s from USB and SD

as Renaud from the 580 Capucinette says  - if you want to go fast you have your food, water, suncream in the cockpit and HANDSTEER listening to music.

 Twin Mainsheet -
Companionway washboard Portlight

Here is the twin mainsheet installed - I have used this on my previous boats and it works really well, and it cancels out the need for a traveller. It also clears the cockpit and also enables the boom to be held in position. I may also add a boombrake system to "brake the boom" if needed later - I have a system that I used on my previous boat that slows the boom as you tack/gybe using blocks and an endless line to slow the booms travel, and also have an aluminium "figure 8 climbing descender" to use as a brake as well so there are 2 choices for that system I will use the best after trying and testing them. the only thing is they add extra "knitting" to the system.

and the top part of the two piece washboard gets a portlight

the way the bottom half closes

the 2 piece companionway washboards will be used when it is not neccesary to use
the one piece hatch that lives under the hatch garage/spraydodger
