Why the name "Cagarro"

Calonectris borealis

The planned name of the boat is cagarro, which is a bird that breeds on the rocky islands in the eastern atlantic.

The Cory´s Shearwater Calonectris borealis has a distinctive call, it sounds like "owa owa Owa". They fly over my house here in the Azores.

They fly with long glides, skimming the wavetops, the perfect creature to give a name to my boat.

They apparently have one mate and return from the sea to the island to return to their mate, what more could a sailor want-  skimming the wavetops, navigating towering seas and to return home to their loved one.

There is an excellent youtube video about them, which will give you more insight into this exceptional creature

Some more inspiration, I was following Yann Quenet on his around the world voyage on his self designed and built 4m Baluchon,

https://www.boat-et-koad.com/  is his design webpage

and his voyage website

and one day when I was in Horta I saw the little boat with a big soul in the Marina, here are the pictures and a video that I took - my 4 big strides give an idea of his boat size

and some pictures
